best food shops in Barwon Heads

You have a chef style kitchen, now you’ll need ingredients.

Where are the best food shops in Barwon Heads?

We are passionate about cooking, so we stocked every conceivable gadget in the kitchen for guests to enjoy.  The Ilve 6 burner stove and the extra large oven is my favourite. The next part- where to find great ingredients for a home cooked meal, and who are the best food shops in Barwon Heads?

The Best Meat In Barwon Heads

THE best meat you will ever find is located at “Benno’s Meating Place” in town, about a 5-minute walk from 100 Hitchcock. The crew at Benno’s are constantly making up gorgeous variations to take home, already prepared for our guests to salivate over.  Whilst Benno’s have won awards all over Victoria for their sausages, we highly recommend their roasts. Whenever we return from a weekend at 100 Hitchcock, we stock the esky full of Benno’s meats to take back to Melbourne. Their point of difference is they smoke their meat on site. I’d say Benno’s is the one of the best of the food shops in Barwon Heads and the Bellarine region.

The Best Everyday Items In Barwon Heads

For everyday items, the IGA in Barwon Heads is ideal. They stock a great range of spices, dips and bread.  We love grabbing pizza making ingredients for a quick and easy meal. Also, their bottle shop is cheaper than the actual bottle shop next door, and stock a great range of wines from the Bellarine area. Surprisingly, they are only a little dearer than the big brand supermarkets in Ocean Grove.

The Best Wine In Barwon Heads

Of course, the widest selection of wines and ciders can be found at The Barwon Heads Wine Store, just a block away from 100 Hitchcock.  Worth strolling for 3 minutes down the road for a wine tasting. Why not watch the sunset at the beach with a bottle of vino from one of the many beautiful wines from the Bellarine wine region. Or, enjoy the covered entertaining area and our big BBQ at 100 Hitchcock.

The Best Cooking Ingredients In Barwon Heads

Annie’s Provedore just a 5-minute walk down the street offers catering if you don’t have the energy to cook. They source a wonderful selection of locally grown produce too, as well as unique products from Italy. However I do recommend you first check for ingredients in the IGA supermarket as their prices are cheaper, and stock an excellent range. Check out their catering options here.

The Best Seafood In Barwon Heads

Now, I have saved the best till last. You may have passed the Barwon Heads Airport before arriving at 100 Hitchcock. At the Barwon Heads airport, you’ll find a great selection of fish freshly flown in from around Victoria. I am salivating just thinking about their Coffin Bay Oysters and Portarlington Mussels. Their fish is flown in daily from areas such as King Island and parts of Victoria. Check them out here.

You are spoilt for choice when it comes to food shopping in Barwon Heads. Now go cook up a storm at 100 Hitchcock! We would love to see pics of your creations too! Share them on our Facebook or Instagram page. Or, if you just simply want to find the best places to dine out, check our other blog here.
